CHIMACUM — A 17-year-old Port Ludlow resident was treated for chest injuries and discharged from Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after his vehicle rolled over on state Highway 19 near Swansonville Road on Tuesday.
Joshua Zepeda, the driver of a 1988 Pontiac Firebird, was found to have experienced some degree of chest trauma after the 8:54 a.m. single-car wreck 11 miles south of Port Townsend, said Trooper Russ Winger, spokesman for the State Patrol.
“He slammed his chest into the steering wheel with some force,” Winger said.
Transporting Zepeda to Harborview Medical Center was a precaution, Winger said.
Zepeda was treated and discharged, a Harborview representative said.
The highway was closed for about an hour while the wreck was cleared, according to the state Department of Transportation.
The State Patrol said the car was northbound when it drifted onto a shoulder, and the driver overcorrected, causing the car to swerve across the road and roll over into a ditch.
The State Patrol listed the cause of the wreck as driver inattention and cited Zepeda for speeding too fast for conditions.
