Car chase ends in Sequim man’s arrest

PORT ANGELES — A Sequim man was in the Clallam County jail Saturday after he reportedly ditched his car off Deer Park Road on Friday night, leaving an adult and small child behind, following a brief car chase with a sheriff’s deputy.

David Allen Elliot, 25, was booked into county jail Friday night for investigation of one count each of eluding a police vehicle and second-degree reckless endangerment.

No bail had yet been set.

Ron Cameron, chief criminal Clallam County sheriff’s deputy, said a deputy tried to stop a car for a traffic infraction as it was traveling east on U.S. Highway near Morse Creek at about 6:30 p.m. Friday.

The car did not stop, Cameron said, and continued east on Highway 101 before making a right turn on Deer Park Road.

“I don’t think the speed got very high,” he said.

Cameron said the man driving the car, later identified as Elliot, ran from the car and into thick brush and woods near Wilder Auto.

A passenger and small girl left in the car were not injured, Cameron added.

Port Angeles Police Cpl. Kevin Miller and canine partner Jag were called in to help find Elliot in the woods, said Brian Smith, deputy police chief.

Jag led Miller to Elliot, whom Miller warned multiple times to surrender before ordering Jag to “make contact” with Elliot.

“Contact means grabbing and holding,” Smith said.

Elliot was treated and released from Olympic Medical Center with wounds to his arm from Jag and booked into county jail, Smith said.
