CAPE GEORGE — Fire Chief Ed Erhardt will step down from his Jefferson County Fire District No. 6 post after serving only one year on the job.
Erhardt, 58, who was hired last June, told commissioners at a board meeting earlier this week that he plans to retire after July 1.
Erhardt becomes the fourth fire chief in Fire District No. 6 in the last 18 months, according to District Administrator Mike Eliason.
Erhardt provided no reason for his retirement.
“I have made the decision to retire,” Erhardt said. “That was pretty much my only comment.”
