PORT ANGELES — Sen. Maria Cantwell pledged Tuesday to seek increased Medicare reimbursements for hospitals, but said health care providers must document related cuts in treatment.
“You must document it because the people in Washington, D.C., think if doctors stop accepting Medicare patients, people can just go to other doctors,”‘ Cantwell, D-Mountlake Terrace, said during her visit to Clallam County. “But that’s not the case.”
Her comments came after an afternoon touring Clallam and Jefferson counties and meeting with economic development officials.
She also went on a driving tour of areas planned for development adjacent to Port Angeles Harbor.
During a discussion in Port Angeles, she was questioned on health care insurance, education and job training.
But talks on Medicare reimbursements dominated the discussion.
