With the help of a crumb, incumbent John Calhoun won the Port of Port Angeles commission race this morning after a hand recount was completed.
Calhoun defeated his challenger, Brad Collins, by 22 votes.
One vote was added to Calhoun’s lead during the recount when one vote that had been counted for Collins was found to be a food crumb stuck to a ballot in just the right spot, said Clallam County Auditor Patty Rosand.
The crumb had been counted as a vote by Clallam County’s vote tallying machine, but it was disqualified by the Clallam County Canvassing Board.
In total, Calhoun had 9,295 votes (50.06 percent).
Collins received 9,273 votes (49.94 percent).
The recount started Wednesday and finished at 11:30 a.m. today.
