■ Port Angeles Business Association — Breakfast meetings are Tuesdays at 7:30 a.m. at Joshua’s Restaurant, 113 DelGuzzi Drive, Port Angeles.
PABA will hold an open discussion this Tuesday on its participation in the “PA United” concept that would combine economic development efforts of PABA, the Port Angeles Downtown Association and the Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Assisted-living provider newly named in Sequim
SEQUIM — Prairie Springs House, a provider of assisted-living services and care to senior citizens, has a new name: Sinclair Place.
“We are thrilled about our new name because it better reflects our commitment to provide a vibrant environment where our residents thrive each and every day, “ Executive Director Chris Lelle said in a statement.
The renaming to Sinclair Place coincides with the recent rebranding of its parent company, Enlivant, formerly known as Assisted Living Concepts.
Enlivant is under new ownership and executive leadership.
The company also unveiled a redesigned website, www.Enlivant.com, to serve as an educational resource for prospective residents and their families.

Bank donates to YMCA
PORT ANGELES — First Federal has donated $5,000 to the YMCA Power of Community Campaign.
This gift matches any new or increased gifts of $100.
All gifts to the Power of Community Campaign support youth and family programs in both Clallam and Jefferson counties. Funds raised help the YMCA to fulfill its mission of bringing activities to the youths of the community.
Streamkeepers grant
PORT ANGELES — Streamkeepers of Clallam County has received $2,000 from the Mountaineers Foundation to help consolidate the Clallam County Water Resources database.
The CCWR database was created in 2000 to incorporate water data both from Streamkeepers’ monitoring and other projects back to 1986.
It contains information from more than 50 projects, involving more than 100,000 hours of data-gathering effort.
The grant will help Streamkeepers consolidate data.

Gem store moves up
PORT ANGELES — Randolf Frederick Co. will move from downstairs at The Landing mall, 115 E. Railroad Ave., to the upstairs in Suite 221 on Thursday.
The business offers custom and handpicked jewelry, rocks, gems and minerals, plus tools and supplies. It also offers field trips and classes.
A new pulse arch welder recently arrived, meaning expanded jewelry repair and creation. New benches are being made for classes.
Jewelry made by students will help support free classes for students who can’t afford them, according to the business.
Randolf Frederick Co. hopes to eventually carry some museum-grade specimens from a local collector.

Photography award
PORT ANGELES — Portrait photographer Ernst-Ulrich Schafer recently attended the Professional Photographers of Washington convention in Tacoma.
He was awarded a degree, Fellow of Photography, and received two judge’s choice ribbons in the print competition for Best Portrait of a Child and Best Portrait of a Group (Children).
Schafer also attended classes at the convention.
He has a studio, Ernst Fine Art Photography, at 120 N. Laurel St. in downtown Port Angeles.
New wines available
SEQUIM — Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St., will be releasing two new wines.
The 2012 Harvest Moon (100 percent cabernet) will be released on the full moon this Tuesday. The wine was pressed on the harvest moon of 2012 and bottled one year later on the 2013 harvest moon.
A portion of the sales for Harvest Moon will be donated by Wind Rose Cellars to the North Olympic Land Trust.
A new vintage of the cellar’s rosato, a dry rose wine, will be released Saturday.

Pool district receives facilities award
PORT ANGELES — The William Shore Memorial Pool District received the top award for Aquatic Facilities for the State of Washington from the Washington Parks and Recreation Association during its annual conference in Seattle.
Accepting the award was Cherie Kidd, a Port Angeles City Council member and a member of the pool district’s board of commissioners; Steve Burke, the district’s executive director; and Christi Wojnowski, aquatics manager for the pool district.
Burke gave a presentation at the awards ceremony on how the district was able to take the 50-year-old pool facility and upgrade it to operating standards, plus reduce energy consumption by more than 50 percent.
“Even though we have one of the oldest pools in the state of Washington,” Burke said, “we now have a state-of-the-art mechanical system that allows us to be one of the most energy efficient pool facilities in the state.”
The district was able to complete the project under budget and will receive a $200,000 utility rebate from the city of Port Angeles.
“We were able to do all these improvements while receiving $50,000 less in tax proceeds than the voters approved in 2009,” Kidd said.
March was the busiest month since the district took over the facility in 2009, with more than 8,000 patrons using the facility.
Annual use has risen each year since 2009 to a record 83,000 in 2013, compared with 35,000 in 2009, according to Burke.
