This Monday’s featured speakers will be two executives of Black Ball Ferry Line — Rian Anderson, district manager, and Ryan Malane, marketing manager — on the rebuilding of the MV Coho ferry landing in Port Angeles.

Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce — Weekly luncheon meetings are held Mondays at noon at the Port Townsend Elks Lodge, 555 Otto St.
This Monday’s featured speaker will be Casey Reeter of the chamber’s Young Professionals Network, to discuss the YPN’s new free mentor program aimed at helping local young professionals with their careers or chosen professions.
Lunch will be catered by Jordini’s, and the meeting sponsor will be Expeditions Northwest.
Forks Chamber of Commerce — Luncheon meetings are Wednesdays at noon at JT’s Sweet Stuffs, 80 N. Forks Ave.
This Wednesday’s program includes a business meeting for chamber members.
Lunch costs $8; a bowl of soup, $4.75; and a cup of soup, $4.
Port Angeles Business Association — Breakfast meetings are Tuesdays at 7:30 a.m. at Joshua’s Restaurant, 113 -DelGuzzi Drive.
The program for this Tuesday’s meeting had not been announced as of Saturday.
There is a $2.16 minimum charge by Joshua’s for those who do not order breakfas

PT Sleep clinic signs provider
PORT TOWNSEND — The Jefferson Healthcare Sleep Medicine Center has signed Brooks McMillian, an advanced registered nurse practitioner with a Master of Science in nursing, as a Jefferson Healthcare provider as of March.
The addition to Jefferson Healthcare will allow its sleep clinic to double its initial appointment availability, said Kate Burke, marketing manager.
McMillian — who has been working with Dr. Jakdej Nikomborirak, known as Dr. Jak, for the past eight years in sleep medicine, initial evaluations and follow-up care — will see patients Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Dr. Jak will continue seeing patients on Wednesdays.
Also, David Turner, who has been working at the sleep clinic as a sleep technician, has now earned a credential as a registered polysomnographic technologist.
Jefferson Healthcare Sleep Medicine Center is located at 834 Sheridan St. in the Medical Outpatient Specialty Clinic, south entrance.
The clinic is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.

Registration due Friday for medical panel
PORT ANGELES — The deadline for registering for the Olympic Peninsula’s ninth annual Medical Assistant Conference is this coming Friday.
The event will be held at the North Olympic Peninsula Skills Center, 905 W. Ninth St., on Saturday, April 13.
Registration for the all-day conference is $99 for nonstudents, $50 for students.
The fee includes both a continental breakfast and lunch.
This year’s theme is “Help for Today, Hope for Tomorrow.”
The conference opens April 13 at 8:30 a.m. with a reception/registration and the continental breakfast.
Keynote speaker will be Kim Deprati, a family practice physician’s assistant, who will present “The Changing Face of Health Care.”
Other presenters include Rob Dalm, physician’s assistant and Peninsula College adjunct professor discussing “The How’s and Why’s of Addiction: Some Neurobiology,” and Vern West, chemical dependency counselor with the Lower Elwha Clinic speaking on “Disease of Addiction.”
Also presenting will be Reflections Counseling Services’ Gayle McCormick; Dr. Allen Lapin; Dr. Ron Bergman; and Susan Hillgren, chemical dependency counselor, who will lead a question-and-answer session regarding “Substance Abuse Prevention and Intervention.”
In addition, Jill Rodhe of Dove House Advocacy Services in Port Townsend will speak on “Addiction and Domestic Violence.”
Attendees also can celebrate April as Alcohol Awareness Month and can visit vendor and informational booths during the conference.
The conference is sponsored by the Peninsula College Foundation and the college’s Allied Health Club.

Community land trust meeting
PORT TOWNSEND — The annual meeting of Homeward Bound Community Land Trust will be held at First Federal, 3121 Sims Way, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 9.
The meeting is open to the public.
Following the annual report and board election, the board will conduct its monthly business meeting.
Homeward Bound Community Land Trust’s mission is to make permanently affordable home ownership opportunities available in Jefferson and Clallam counties.
Homeward Bound currently has five homes in trust in Clallam County.
The board is seeking people interested in the community land trust model, especially from Jefferson County, to become involved.
Homeward Bound CLT was founded in 2005 as a not-for-profit corporation and has 501(c)(3) status with the IRS.

Garden set to open
PORT ANGELES — Jan’s Country Garden, 344 O’Brien Road, will open for its 25th season Wednesday, April 10.
The garden’s hours will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays.
Customers who wish to start their dahlias early in pots can pick up dahlia tuber orders April 10-13.
Otherwise, customers with dahlia tuber orders should pick up their order from April 25-27, May 2-4 or May 8-10.
The garden offers more than 600 varieties of dahlia tubers from well-known growers and hybridizers from around the world.

Deputy city clerk on board
SEQUIM — Deputy City Clerk Bobbie Usselman has been elected as a board member to the Washington Municipal Clerks Association.
Usselman recently was sworn in at the association’s annual business meeting in Tacoma.
WMCA is a statewide organization of more than 300 city, county, transit and district clerks.
The organization says it is dedicated to providing professional development, education and networking resources for its members.
In cooperation with the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, WMCA encourages standards of excellence and provides opportunities for clerks to achieve formal certification within their profession.
Usselman earned the designation of Master Municipal Clerk from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks in 2012.
She has worked for Sequim as deputy clerk since May 2005.
She is also a well-known musician with several North Olympic Peninsula bands and orchestras.

Find inner harmony
PORT ANGELES — Inner Harmony with EFT has opened in the Natural Healing Clinic at 162 S. Barr Road.
EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Technique, also known as “tapping.”
It involves gentle fingertip tapping on specific areas of the face and body while tuning into specific emotions.
EFT is described as “like acupuncture for emotions, but without the needles.”
Workshops are meant to help people end their cravings for a variety of foods and substances such as chocolate, bread, soda, chips, ice cream, cigarettes and more.
A support group is held from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays, and classes on weight-loss and those designed for children also are planned.

Two new staffers
PORT ANGELES — Licensed massage practitioner Rebekah Steltzer and receptionist/human resources staffer Michelle McGuffey have joined the staff of Northwest Massage and Holistic Healing Center.
Steltzer specializes in Swedish massage, deep-tissue massage, polarity therapy, Russian-neurol humoral, prenatal and warm stone therapy.
McGuffey, a Port Angeles native, is returning to the workforce after a break during which she home-schooled her children.

Opening day
PORT ANGELES — An “opening-day” open house for the new location of Korean Women’s Association Home Care, 616 E. Front St., is set from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday.
The public is invited for a “ballpark meal” (hot dogs) and a chance to win a raffle prize.
Those attending are asked to bring a canned or dry-food donation for the association’s pantry.
All donations to the pantry will go to local seniors.

Market ‘fling’ set
SEQUIM — An indoor “Spring Fling” Sequim Open Aire Market will be held at the Guy Cole Center in Carrie Blake Park, 202 N. Blake Ave., from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. this coming Saturday.
Around 25 vendors are expected at the event.
The Sequim Open Aire Market kicks off its outdoor season on Cedar Street between Second and Sequim avenues May 4.
