PORT TOWNSEND — Clallam-Jefferson Pro Bono Lawyers will provide low-income community members with the opportunity to learn about and prepare their advance planning documents, such as a durable power of attorney for finances and a health care directive (or “living will”), on Saturday.
The Planning Ahead Free Legal Clinic will take place at the community center, 620 Tyler St., from noon to 3 p.m.
Attendees will learn about legal documents that allow individuals to appoint friends or family members to help them make important decisions when they are no longer able to do so for themselves.
They also allow individuals to express their wishes to doctors and loved ones about what kind of “end of life” health care they do or don’t want.
The first part of the free legal clinic is an informational session on different advance planning documents and how they work.
In the second part of the program, participants can meet with volunteer attorneys to complete their own advance planning documents.
The clinic is sponsored by the Clallam-Jefferson Pro Bono Lawyers, the Northwest Justice Project and the Seattle University School of Law Clinical Program.

Cookbook author
SEQUIM — Author Mi Ae Lipe will give a presentation about her new book, Bounty from the Box, at Nash’s Farm Store, 4681 Sequim-Dungeness Way, at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Lipe’s cookbook is directed toward people thinking about getting a community-supported agriculture box, wherein the customer pays ahead and receives a weekly box of fresh, seasonal produce from a local farm.
The book follows the seasons and is a guide for using the more than 90 different crops commonly found in CSA boxes across the nation.
The presentation is free and open to the public.
Lipe will explain how her book is structured and how to use it.
“I will also talk about food and identity, how ‘doing the right thing’ doesn’t necessarily mean sticking to just one kind of food system,” Lipe said.
“People have to work out what works best for them. We will also talk about eating organic, consequences for long-term health and also cut through some of the marketing hype that often surrounds these topics.”
