PORT TOWNSEND — Clallam-Jefferson County Pro Bono Lawyers will present the quarterly Jefferson County Free Legal Clinic event at the Port Townsend Community Center, 620 Tyler St., from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday.
This event is a free drop-in legal advice clinic for members of the public.
This clinic allows for community members to address their legal issues in one-on-one consultations with volunteer lawyers.
The event is intended to help those who are otherwise unable to financially access an attorney but is open to all who attend.
Attorney volunteers will be available to answer legal questions, to direct people to local services that might be able to assist them and to explain the legal process to them.
Volunteers will answer questions regarding family law, tenant/landlord, public assistance, estate, bankruptcy, employment and creditor issues.
It is anticipated demand for this clinic will be high, so it is recommended that attendees arrive on time to ensure being seen by an attorney.

Designer draws award
PORT ANGELES — Trish Tisdale, graphic designer for Olympic Printers in Port Angeles, recently won three 2015 American Graphic Design awards sponsored by Graphic Design USA.
The Port Angeles resident’s winning entries included an invitation designed for the Washington State Auto Dealers Association and a services brochure for Aesthetic Surgery Centre in Tacoma.
Her redesign of the logo for technology company Synapsify also received an award in the logos, trademarks and symbols category.
Tisdale also performs freelance work through her business, Tisdale Graphic Design.
For five decades, Graphic Design USA has sponsored competitions to spotlight areas of excellence and opportunity for creative professionals.
Nearly 10,000 entries were submitted for the 2015 competition, with 15 percent recognized for outstanding achievement.
Septics classes set
SEQUIM — Clallam County Environmental Health is offering Septics 101 (Septics Maintenance) and Septics 201 (Do-It-Yourself Septic Inspection) classes at the Dungeness River Audubon Center, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road, in October.
Preregistration is required at www.clallam.net under “Online Services” or by calling Environmental Health at 360-417-2506.
Septics 101, a free 2.5-hour class, provides homeowners with an overview of the what, why and how of septic system maintenance.
The Septics 101 class will be held from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7.
As an alternate to the class, there is an online Septics 101 version available via the Environmental Health website at www.clallam.net/Septics101.
Septics 101 is a prerequisite for Septics 201.
Septics 201, a free two-hour class, provides homeowners with an overview of the what, why and how of safely inspecting the septic system and includes an instructional video, a brief demonstration and a short exam.
The Septics 201 class will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20.
An online do-it-yourself course also is available on the Environmental Health website at www.clallam.net/Septics201DIY.
Not all septic systems are eligible for homeowner inspection, and systems located in the Marine Recovery Area (between Bagley Creek watershed and east to the county boundary) must first be inspected by a licensed septic inspector.
Septic inspections are required by state law.
Gravity septic systems are inspected every three years; all other systems are inspected annually.
Pumping is not the same as an inspection.

Producer purchased
PORT TOWNSEND — The owner of Port Townsend Paper Corp. has purchased an independent corrugated sheet cardboard producer in Southern California.
Crown Paper Group Inc. officially acquired Montebello Container Corp. on Sept. 22, according to a news release.
Montebello operates three facilities in the Los Angeles area, with one each in La Mirada, Santa Fe Springs and Pico Rivera.
The price of the acquisition was not provided.
The move follows Crown’s acquisition of Port Townsend Paper, Crown Packaging and Boxmaster in February, which the company said is part of its strategy to build an independent North American packaging business.
The Port Townsend mill has an estimated 300 employees, making it Jefferson County’s largest employer.
Crown Paper Group is a holding company for investments in the paper and packaging industries.
It was created in 2015 by Lindsay Goldberg, an investment firm that manages $14 billion of equity capital.
