CHIMACUM — Clallam-Jefferson County Pro Bono Lawyers will hold its second Jefferson County free legal clinic at the Tri-Area Community Center, 10 West Valley Road, from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 19.
The event is a free drop-in legal advice clinic for members of the public.
Held quarterly, the clinic allows for local people to address their legal issues in one-on-one consultations with volunteer lawyers.
The event is intended to help those who are otherwise unable to financially access an attorney, but it is open to all.
Volunteers will answer questions regarding family law, tenant/landlord, public assistance, estate, bankruptcy, employment and creditor issues.
Additionally, there will be an attorney on hand who specializes in foreclosure prevention, offering assistance to “underwater” borrowers and victims of foreclosure scams.

New HR manager
PORT ANGELES — Abbi Gates has been appointed the city’s new human resources manager..
Gates assumes the position vacated by Robert Coons this month.
She has been the city’s human resources analyst since June 2009.
Prior to coming to Port Angeles, Gates worked for the state Department of Corrections in human resources for nine years.
She earned her master’s degree in organizational management at Ashford University, where she also earned a specialization in human resources management.

Hardware store plans facility in Bremerton
PORT TOWNSEND — Henery Do it Best Hardware plans to open a new store in Bremerton in August.
Owner Matthew Henery of Port Townsend recently signed a lease on a 26,000-square-foot building in Bremerton’s Wheaton Mall and said the store will employ about 15 people when it opens.
“In Bremerton, just as we have done in the other towns we are located, we want to become the community hardware store,” Henery said.
“We will look to hire people who are retired plumbers, electricians and contractors who have the know-how to meet your needs.
“Furthermore, we will create an atmosphere where people of all ages enjoy coming to our store, eating free popcorn, having their problems solved and building relationships.”
Fourth location
Similar to the other three Henery Do it Best Hardware stores, the new Bremerton location will offer a broad selection of hardware including lawn and garden, paint, plumbing and electrical items, he added.
This will be the fourth Henery Do it Best Hardware location, joining stores in Port Townsend, Kingston and Quilcene.

Peninsula resort earns award
FORKS — Three Rivers Resort & Guide Service, 7765 LaPush Road, recently was presented the Clallam County Health & Human Services Business Leadership Advisory Committee Employer of the Quarter Award by Sara King, associate support department supervisor at The Home Depot and member of the Business Leadership Advisory Committee.
This award recognizes employers who demonstrate diversity and inclusion in their hiring practices by having one or more employees with developmental disabilities in their employ.
One employee in particular who has a developmental disability is said to be very dependable and enjoys his job at the resort, according to co-owner Ruby Swagerty.
Swagerty said the key was matching his skills and interests to their employment needs.
She said he enjoys picking up rocks, so they translated that into picking up trash around the resort. He also likes tearing and stacking paper, so he tears and stacks their cardboard for recycling.
Swagerty mentioned that team morale and bonding have improved since hiring him. Her other employees are attached to him and are disappointed if he’s not scheduled during their shift, she said.
The Business Leadership Advisory Committee is a business-to-business network promoting the inclusion of people with disabilities in the community and workforce.
It has established a mentorship program for businesses interested in exploring the possibility of hiring individuals with disabilities.
