BEAVER — Steven Dean Goodman, a third suspect wanted in connection with a July 21 burglary in Port Angeles, was captured Wednesday night by law enforcement in Beaver.
A Clallam County Sheriff’s deputy and two Forks police officers responded after tips from the public placed Goodman in the Lake Pleasant area near Beaver along U.S. Highway 101, about 14 miles northeast of Forks, said Ron Cameron, chief criminal deputy with the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s deputy and the two Forks officers had a description of the car Goodman had reportedly been driving, Cameron said, and saw this car at the Hungry Bear Cafe along Highway 101 just west of the intersection of Bear Creek Road.
When the sheriff’s deputy and the Forks officer arrived at the cafe, Goodman, 24, was seen running from a car parked in the parking lot, Cameron said.
The officers and the deputy caught up with Goodman just before he reached the Sol Duc River and took him into custody without incident, Cameron said.
Goodman, who had been at large since the burlgary of a Cherry Street home, was checked into the Forks Community Hospital on Wednesday evening for a condition unrelated to his arrest, Cameron said.
As of Thursday morning, Cameron said Goodman was still checked into the Forks hospital, but did not have any information on his condition.
Goodman had been charged in absentia with two counts each of theft of a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm, and one count each of first-degree robbery and first-degree burglary in connection with a break-in at a home on Cherry Street in Port Angeles.
Cameron said an additional count of resisting arrest will be referred to the Clallam County Prosecutor’s Office for Goodman allegedly trying to run from law enforcement officers.
Goodman’s alleged accomplices, Matthew Tyler Charles, 27, and Roxanne Rae Venske, 24, were arrested July 21 following a day-long search involving multiple law enforcement agencies.
Charles has pleaded not guilty to two counts each of theft of a firearm and first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, and one count each of first-degree robbery and first-degree burglary.
Venske has pleaded not guilty to one count each of first-degree burglary as an accomplice, attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle and unlawful imprisonment.
