PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles man will spend just more than four years in a state prison after pleading guilty to breaking into two Port Angeles homes within 6 miles of each other in December.
Nelson Ray Blewett, 25, was sentenced in Clallam County Superior Court on Tuesday to 53 months in prison and at least $1,300 in restitution, according to court documents filed in the case.
Blewett pleaded guilty to two counts of residential burglary and one count of taking a motor vehicle without permission.
John Troberg, Clallam County deputy prosecuting attorney, said Blewett will get roughly a month knocked off the 53-month sentence as credit for time served.
Troberg also initially charged Blewett with one count of unlawful possession of a firearm — since Blewett is a convicted felon barred from owning firearms — but dismissed the charge since a .22-caliber revolver reportedly belonging to Blewett was found disassembled in the home just east of the Lower Elwha Klallam reservation where Blewett was arrested in December.
“[The gun] has to be assembled to meet statutory requirements,” Troberg said.
Burglary details
According to police reports filed in the case, Blewett broke into a home in east Port Angeles at about 5 a.m. Dec. 11 and, at about 10 a.m. that same day, an apartment just north of the William R. Fairchild International Airport.
Blewett reportedly entered the home on East Myrtle Street through an unlocked door, took the homeowner’s car keys from a bedside nightstand while the homeowner was sleeping in the same room and drove off in the homeowner’s car.
According to the police report, Blewett made off with two spotlights from the home’s kitchen and two pork chops from the refrigerator.
Blewett then was later reported walking into an apartment on 16th Street north of the airport at about 10 a.m. that same day and was heard rummaging through drawers by nearby witnesses.
The apartment’s tenant, who arrived after Blewett was seen leaving, reported that a red backpack, seven tattoo guns and an iPhone were missing from her home.
A Clallam County sheriff’s deputy and a Lower Elwha police officer arrested Blewett at about 9:30 that night at the house east of the of the Lower Elwha Klallam reservation and found the missing car from the 5 a.m. burglary in the driveway.
Blewett admitted to the arresting officers that he was involved in both burglaries, court documents said.
