PORT TOWNSEND — A building permit to place a Hollywood Video store in the remodeled Port Townsend Lumber Co. building at 2219 E. Sims Way has been applied for at City Hall.
Martin Lakey, an RHL Design Group architect whose name appears on the application, on Thursday confirmed the specifics of the project.
But he refrained from commenting on whether Hollywood Video executives made an official decision to open a store in Port Townsend.
Hollywood Video representatives in Wilsonville, Ore., have not returned repeated calls for comment.
Hollywood Video is a client of developer Brent Nicholson, whose Nicholson Investment Properties Inc. in the Seattle suburb of Kirkland is renovating the building.
The chain video rental outlet is widely opposed by a Port Townsend group known as Stop Hollywood Video.
The developer is planning a 6,400-square-foot store, according to his application filed at City Hall.
That would take up about half of the building at the corner of Kearney Street and East Sims Way, which is now undergoing renovation.
Hollywood Video would be one of up to five businesses that could open shop in the new retail space.
City officials had not received any applications concerning the remaining four spaces in the building Thursday.
“We have no idea what the other four stores would be,” said Penny Westerfield, administrative assistant in the city’s Development Services Department.
