PORT ANGELES — Donna Kay Buck has officially won the commissioner seat on Fire Protection District 4’s board by a two-vote margin, according to a state-mandated recount held Friday at the Clallam County Courthouse.
Buck defeated Cindy Bryant by 385 votes to 383 votes.
Because Buck’s margin of victory was less than half of 1 percent after all ballots were counted in Clallam County, a state-mandated recount was necessary.
Clallam County elections coordinator Patty Rosand said the recount took about 15 minutes.
Fire Protection District 4 runs from Freshwater Bay Road west of Port Angeles to west of Joyce.
Buck, wife of state Rep. Jim Buck, R-Joyce, will serve for four years.
“It shows how every vote counts,” Buck said about her slim margin of victory.
“It also shows that both candidates had something to offer.
“Both of us were good candidates.”
