PORT ANGELES — No one was hurt Thursday morning when the Safeway store at 110 Third Ave. was evacuated for about three hours because of a punctured refrigeration line.
Safeway spokeswoman Cherie Myers said the store was shut down about 9 a.m. and reopened about 12:15 p.m. The only damage was to one of the store’s refrigeration cases, she said.
Port Angeles Fire Department Acting Capt. Kelly Ziegler said a service technician punctured a refrigeration line in one of the store’s deli coolers about 8:50 a.m.
The store was evacuated and the parking lot was blocked off to keep people out while a technician from Poulsbo arrived to make repairs, Ziegler said.
Exhaust fans
After the line was fixed, fans were used for about 45 minutes to blow out the remaining fumes, he said.
Then firefighters went through the store with atmospheric monitors and determined that the store was safe to reopen, Ziegler said.
