BRINNON — The early bird gets the shrimp.
Seafood lovers flocked to the annual ShrimpFest on Saturday causing a run on cooked crustaceans that left latecomers with empty plates.
The festival, which celebrates the May harvest of Hood Canal spot shrimp, continues today.
Food and craft vendors, entertainment and parking are located along U.S. Highway 101, just past the Brinnon store.
Vendors will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today.
But if you want to eat shrimp, plan to get there early.
By 2:30 p.m. Saturday, the Quilcene-Brinnon Shellfish Club had sold out their 30-pound allotment for the day and closed up shop. The club charges $5 for a half-dozen peel-and-eat shrimp.
“We save half the fun for the customers,” said club adviser Charlie Baker, a Quilcene High School science teacher.
The club will cook another 30 pounds of shrimp today.
