Brinnon history book to be shown Saturday

BRINNON — The first public viewing of the revised “A Scrapbook of History — Brinnon” is scheduled for Saturday.

Vern and Ida Bailey of Brinnon donated the rights to their book to the Quilcene Historical Museum in January.

The reprint of the book will be available at a luncheon Saturday that will be hosted by the Quilcene Historical Museum, 151 E. Columbia St., for Quilcene High School alumni, the museum announced in a statement.

The Baileys and their children will be in attendance from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

“It’s been a huge undertaking, but one we are so grateful and honored to accomplish,” said Mari Phillips, museum board chairwoman

“The history of Brinnon is captured in wonderful writing styles and incredible photographs lovingly assembled by Vern and Ida.”

The reprint contains a section not included in the first printing about the Baileys’ life in Brinnon.

Limited copies

The book has been out of print since 2003.

A limited number of autographed copies will be available for purchase at the Museum Alumni Weekend.

The book will be available for purchase through the museum this summer.

Also, a major donation related to the book was given to the museum earlier this month.

The Rev. Jan Ekstedt and Elaine Ekstedt of Wichita, Kan., have donated a quilt made by Lillian Christiansen.

Christiansen is acknowledged in the beginning of the book, which cites her letters and photographs as an integral part of the book.

The quilt will be on display along with the books.

Celebration

A communitywide celebration for Brinnon and the Baileys, sponsored by the museum will be held later this summer. A date has not been set.

Also, at its June meeting, the museum board approved new members.

They are David Satterlee, Quilcene; Mary Ann Ross, Quilcene; Tess and Bob Allgire, Port Townsend; Lori Millard, Quilcene; Jacque Booth, Brinnon; Bob McDaniel, Quilcene; and Gary Phillips, Brinnon and Quilcene.

The Quilcene Historical Museum displays photos, historical artifacts and other educational displays highlighting the area’s logging and pioneer past.
