BRINNON — A 12-year-old girl was shot in the head as she and her brothers were apparently playing with a loaded pistol at their home Friday.
The shooting occurred around 1:30 p.m. at the girl’s home on the 200 block of Fulton Creek Road.
The girl, whose identity has not been released, underwent surgery at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle on Friday night, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Sgt. Ben Stamper said.
“A nursing supervisor said then that they were having trouble stabilizing her,” the sergeant said.
On Saturday evening, she was still in critical condition, he said.
Deputies are trying to contact the girl’s parents before releasing her name, Stamper said.
Her father is believed to be out of the state.
Home alone
The girl and her brothers, ages 13 and 14, were home alone when the shooting occurred, Undersheriff Ken Sukert said.
“It was the victim’s 13-year-old brother that was actually in possession of the gun when she was shot,” Stamper said.
