BRIEFLY: Morning fire kept to one room in Port Townsend … and other news in brief

PORT TOWNSEND — An early morning house fire was contained to one room by the efforts of a resident and crews from East Jefferson Fire-Rescue.

Residents of a two-story house at Logan and 10th streets called 9-1-1 early Sunday morning after a smoke alarm alerted them to smoke and flames in a laundry room, according to Patricia Willestoft, assistant public information officer for East Jefferson Fire-Rescue.

East Jefferson Fire-Rescue was called out at 1:04 a.m. and responded with two engines and a crew of 10.

Upon arrival, firefighters found one of the residents attempting to put out the flames.

East Jefferson Fire-Rescue extinguished the fire, which was contained to one room.

One resident was treated for smoke inhalation.

The Red Cross was called to assist the family.

He was airlifted to Yakima Regional Medical Center.

The sheriff’s office, Naches Fire, Yakima Fire and other agencies responded to the report at about 6:45 p.m. Saturday.
