SHELTON — A Port Angeles commercial trucker escaped injury in a crash that took the lives of two Bremerton residents when the driver of a car slammed into a log truck he was driving.
The double fatality was at 5:20 a.m. Thursday on U.S. Highway 101 five miles north of Shelton.
Stephen John Jacobson, 65, and his 64-year-old female passenger — who was not identified pending notification of family — were traveling northbound on Highway 101 when their 1996 Saturn crossed the centerline and rammed into the front of a 2008 Kenworth log truck driven by Todd Eugene Dewey, 44, the State Patrol said.
Dewey, a commercial truck driver, was not hurt, troopers said.
Jacobson and his passenger died in the crash, the State Patrol said.
The highway was closed for about five hours while the vehicles were cleared. The Saturn was completely destroyed and the log truck was damaged, troopers said.
The cause of the wreck is under investigation, the State Patrol said.
All were wearing their seat belts; no drugs or alcohol were involved in the wreck, the State Patrol said.
