One person was killed Sunday after gunfire erupted at the Maple Grove Motel in Quilcene about 7 p.m.
Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies confirmed the death outside the motel and that a male suspect had to be taken to Jefferson General Hospital in Port Townsend for an undetermined medical reason.
Cal Rogers, owner of the motel at 61 Maple Grove Road, said he heard a bang, but he wasn’t sure if it was near the motel because of frequent recreational shooting in nearby hills.
At the Loggers Landing Restaurant next door, a patron who refused to identify himself told the that a man came into the restaurant’s lounge, placed a gun on the bar and said, “I just shot him in the head.”
