TILLAMOOK, Ore. — The body of a crab fisherman from Gardiner has been found on a beach near where the fishing boat on which he was crewing sank in heavy seas the week before.
Tillamook County Sheriff Todd Anderson confirmed Tuesday night that a body discovered Friday on Rockaway Beach, Ore., was that of George B. Shaw, 55, who was apparently tossed overboard when the boat was swamped near the Tillamook River bar Nov. 28.
Anderson said a beach walker found Shaw’s body last Friday at around 4:30 a.m.
Shaw and Tim Leake, 44, of Tillamook were swept from the 45-foot Network. Leake’s body has not been recovered.
Darrin Mobley, the boat’s captain, was able to climb onto the jetty to safety. None of the men — who were all close fishing friends — was wearing a life jacket when the large wave smashed into the boat, the Coast Guard said.
