TACOMA — Jefferson County Sheriff Mike Brasfield is expected to take the stand next week in a federal civil lawsuit against Jefferson County and jail Superintendent Steve Richmond.
The trial, which began Monday in U.S. District Court in Tacoma, continues today after skipping Tuesday because the judge was out of town.
Port Townsend resident Zachary Barbee is claiming that medical attention was denied to him during his 3½-day stay in 2004 in the Jefferson County jail in Port Hadlock, leading to the amputation of his right little finger.
Brasfield, who is an elected official, is ultimately responsible for the activities in the jail and the conduct of his employees.
Richmond is also scheduled to testify in his own defense next week.
Barbee’s attorneys, Seattle-based Ed Budge and Erik Heipt, are scheduled call between 10 and 20 witnesses.
