Body of missing person located near Coyle

Girlfriend reported last contact on Friday

QUILCENE — The body of a man reported missing has been found off a logging road on the Toandos Peninsula.

Nathan Gerrior-Main, 36, of Port Ludlow was found by family members Monday near his Toyota 4Runner, Jefferson County Undersheriff Andy Pernsteiner said.

He was located on state Department of Natural Resources property just off Coyle Road near milepost 5, where he reportedly hanged himself, Pernsteiner said.

Gerrior-Main’s girlfriend had reported him missing about 11 p.m. Friday, he said.

A missing-persons poster had been circulated to ask the public for help.

“She hadn’t heard from him since about 3 p.m. that day,” Pernsteiner said. “He told her he was stuck in traffic in Gorst and was on his way home.”

Family members started searching from Gerrior-Main on Saturday, and the sheriff’s department pinged his phone Sunday, Pernsteiner said.

The phone sent back a signal that was about 6 miles from Quilcene, he said.

Pernsteiner said a hunter was scouting the area and saw the pickup and Gerrior-Main next to the vehicle.

The hunter didn’t approach the man, but he called the sheriff’s department to check on him, Pernsteiner said.

“About the same time, someone from the family found him there,” Pernsteiner said.

Where to go for help

The undersheriff said the holidays can be a difficult time of year and encouraged people to call the 24-hour crisis line if they need someone to talk to.

The number is 1-888-910-0416, and a 24-hour online chat is available at imhurting.org.

“It’s sad this time of the year,” Pernsteiner said. “People can get depressed around the holidays or right after the holidays are over.

“It’s nice to reach out to someone and talk to them.”
