IRONDALE — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday that the body of an adult male was pulled from the water near Irondale.
According to Arthur Frank, chief criminal deputy, at 1 p.m. Tuesday, officers received a report of a body in south Port Townsend Bay near the log dump at the end of East Moore Street in Port Hadlock-Irondale.
According to Bill Beezley of East Jefferson Fire-Rescue, a crew was also dispatched from EJFR to the 500 block of Moore Street. However, when it was determined that the man was already dead, the issue was turned over to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
“He was deceased,” said Frank. “There was no question about that.”
The body was found 12 feet from shore. According to Frank, officials arrived on the scene at 1:06 p.m. and were able to wade in to the water and pull the body to shore within seconds.
“At this point, everything is under investigation,” Frank said Tuesday. “We’re still trying to determine identity.”
Frank said the cause of death is still unknown and, due to cold water temperatures, they are still unsure how long the body was in the water.
At the time the body was discovered, water temperatures in the area were about 51 degrees and the tide was coming in.
The case will continue to be investigated by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office.
