FORKS – Amateur divers discovered a man’s body in the Sol Duc River late Monday, downstream from where a pickup truck rolled down an embankment into the river the day before.
State Patrol troopers and a Clallam County deputy coroner recovered the body of Ollie D. Dannels, 30, of Orofino, Idaho, about a half-mile from where the truck plunged into the river.
State Patrol spokesman Lt. Clint Casebolt said Dannels was last seen about 5 a.m. on Sunday and was planning on fishing and hunting with some family members in the Forks area.
But he didn’t show, Casebolt said.
His family members felt that he would contact them if he could have, Casebolt said.
The red 1994 Ford pickup was found in the Sol Duc River near a crossing beneath U.S. Highway 101.
It was submerged to the windows about 25 feet from shore.
The truck had been northbound on Highway 101 about 13 miles north of Forks.
The truck veered to the left, went through a guardrail, rolled several times down the steep, rocky embankment and landed on its wheels in the river, troopers said.
