PORT TOWNSEND — The M/V Jellyfish will be auctioned off June 12.
The trawler will be auctioned at 9 a.m. that day at the Port Townsend Boat Haven, Port of Port Townsend commissioners decided Tuesday.
Yard Manager Terry Khile will conduct the auction.
“The 1980 Sea Chief trawler 38 is a customer’s boat who filed for bankruptcy and the boat has a lien on it,” said Abigail Berg, director of finance for the port. “We tried to sell it but the bank would not release it.
“For $15,000 the bidder will get the boat,” Berg said. “They will get a release from the bank so they will not be liable for the lien.”
She said the value was determined by condition and age. The fee covers port fees owed on the vessel, legal fees and moorage.
A portion also will go to the bank.
The fishing boat is in good condition and is seaworthy, port officials said. It is currently in dry dock.
Berg said sometimes boats are derelict and aren’t worth anything. But this case is different.
“We tried hard not to crush it,” she said. “It’s a good little boat.”
