Blue Mountain Transfer Station in Port Angeles reopening Saturday for garbage and recycling

PORT ANGELES — The Blue Mountain Transfer Station, much of which was gutted in a November fire, will be back on schedule beginning Saturday.

Since Jan. 4, the transfer station at 1469 Blue Mountain Road has been open only on Saturdays and only for recycling.

Beginning this coming Saturday, it will accept garbage and recyclables and resume its usual schedule of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

The transfer station at 1469 Blue Mountain Road was closed Nov. 10 after a fire gutted the business office and a roof that covered large waste and recycling containers.

On Jan. 4, it reopened for recycling service only and only on Saturdays.

Information on the cost of bringing the facility back up to normal operations and the cause of the November fire was unavailable Sunday.

The facility between Port Angeles and Sequim is owned by Clallam County and operated by Waste Connections under a contract with the city of Port Angeles.

City officials had said that garbage service and normal hours would resume after the county replaced the building.

While the transfer station was closed, east county residents could take garbage and recyclables to the Port Angeles Regional Transfer Station at 3501 W. 18th St., on the west side of the city.

For information about garbage fees and what can be recycled at Blue Mountain, call the Transfer Station recorded information line at 360-417-4875 or see the Recycling and Garbage Guide in the front of the Dex phone book.
