FORKS — A one-day interactive math, science and literacy program for parents and their children ages 8 months to 8 years will be offered free at the Peninsula College Extension site in Forks from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 22.
The Forks Extension site is at 481 S. Forks Ave.
BLOCKfest has children play with blocks to support math and science learning in young children and helps them get ready for kindergarten.
Research shows that children build math and science skills from the earliest years of life and that play provides a natural learning lab for developing those skills, Peninsula College said in a news release.
Block play also aids in the development of social, emotional, language, motor and cognitive abilities and supports parents and children as they form an emotional bond during the learning experience, college organizers said.
Five block stations will be set up. Parents and their children will spend time at each.
Each area features a different kind of block ranging from cubes to planks to unit, foam and brick blocks.
A trained volunteer BLOCKfest facilitator will be at each site to support the block play.
