SEQUIM — A fire that began on a wood pile damaged a shop and residence on Happy Valley Road.
No one was hurt, according to Clallam County Fire District 3 firefighters.
The cause remained under investigation.
They were dispatched to the fire at 1403 Happy Valley Road at 4:04 p.m. Friday to find two people already fighting the blaze, one at a wood pile outside and another inside a 36-foot by 60-foot shop.
A volunteer firefighter, the first on the scene, reported that the A volunteer firefighter was first to arrive on scene and reported that wood pile blaze had extended into the shop, which had attached living quarters.
The owner told firefighters he had been doing chores in the area, cutting wood and using a weed burner during the past two days.
When he came around the back side of the shop on Friday afternoon, he saw his wood pile on fire with flames going up the exterior wall.
The fire burned off the ends of the shop trusses and entered the interior, burning insulation in three of the four open bays.
Clallam County Public Utility District secured power to the shop and attached residence.
Sixteen responders arrived to extinguish the fire.
