PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson County commissioners accepted four bids from contractors to fully develop a mile of Larry Scott Memorial Trail from Edwards Road south to Discovery Bay Golf Course.
The apparent low bid came from Shold Excavating Inc. of Port Hadlock at $110,080.
Three other bids ran from $143,485 from Seton Construction of Jefferson County to $226,521 from T.L. McConnell Construction Inc.
The contract, which could be awarded in the next two weeks after the county engineer reviews the bids, calls for clearing, earth work and excavation, said Monte Reinders, county engineer.
The state Recreation and Conservation Office will fund 50 percent of the project, which is part of the county’s six-year transportation improvement plan.
The work would extend the trail to six miles with improvements.
The trail is planned to next be developed from the golf course south to near the intersection of Four Corners Road and state Highway 20.
Discovery Trail link
It will ultimately run south to the head of Discovery Bay and west to the county line at Diamond Point Road once rights of way are secured and construction is complete, linking it with the Olympic Discovery Trail in Clallam County.
The latter trail will run to Forks and LaPush via Sequim, Port Angeles and Lake Crescent.
The county commissioners also accepted a single bid from child-care operator Rebecca Lovett to lease space at the county’s Port Townsend Recreation Center for $1,000 a month for child-care services.
Matt Tyler, county parks and recreation manager, said he would return before the county commissioners next Monday to execute the lease after the bid is analyzed.
The commissioners also approved an interlocal agreement for resource conservation management services with the city of Port Townsend, Port Townsend School District, Chimacum School District and Fort Worden State Park.
