PORT ANGELES — A bicyclist who was struck by a box van on the shoulder of U.S. Highway 101 on Tuesday was treated and discharged from Olympic Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said Wednesday.
Roger A. Wagner, 57, of Sequim was riding westbound when he was struck from behind by a 2006 Isuzu box van driven by Robert K. Duncan, a State Patrol spokesman said.
Duncan, 52, of Seattle was booked into the Clallam County jail for investigation of driving while impaired, said Trooper Russ Winger, State Patrol spokesman.
Duncan was released after his initial court appearance Wednesday.
No court records associated with the collision were filed as of 5 p.m.
Clallam County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Jesse Espinoza was not immediately available for comment.
The State Patrol said Duncan drifted off the road and struck the bicycle Wagner was riding at about 11:27 a.m.
The collision occurred near Knapp Road in east Clallam County near the Jefferson County line.
Troopers said drugs or alcohol were involved in the collision.
The box van came to a rest on the right shoulder.
Wagner and the bicycle came to a rest in a ditch, according to the State Patrol collision memo.
Duncan was wearing a seat belt. Wagner was wearing a helmet, troopers said.
Wagner was transported to OMC by Clallam County Fire District No. 3.
