PORT ANGELES — A bicyclist was airlifted to Providence Medical Center in Everett on Thursday afternoon after colliding with a truck on Old Olympic Highway near its intersection with U.S. Highway 101, the State Patrol said.
Alexander L. Olson, 35, of Sequim was riding his bicycle on the eastbound shoulder of Highway 101 just east of O’Brien Road when he turned left onto Old Olympic Highway in front of a truck, according to a State Patrol collision memo.
The bicyclist came to rest in lane one of two while the truck came to rest on the left shoulder and the highway was partially blocked for 15 minutes, according to the memo.
Olson’s condition was not available late Thursday afternoon.
The truck — a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 driven by Donald B. Shaw, 53, of Kennewick — was traveling about 20 to 30 miles per hour, said Washington State Patrol spokeswoman Katherine Weatherwax.
The only damage to the truck was the driver’s side mirror.
The damage to the bicycle was extensive, she said.
