PORT ANGELES — Two family members of Brooke Bedinger, the 19-year-old Sequim resident killed in a June 21, 2018, motorcycle wreck, were involved in a motorcycle collision with neither badly hurt.
Joseph C. Margason, 65, of Port Angeles, ran into the back of the motorcycle carrying Katy M. Bedinger and Donald A. Bedinger at about 7:48 p.m. Thursday, the State Patrol said.
He was listed in satisfactory condition on Friday at Olympic Medical Center.
Katy M. Bedinger, 33, of Sequim, Brooke’s sister-in-law, was transported to OMC for observation and tests, the State Patrol said.
She was released at about 11 p.m., three hours later, Brooke’s mother, Kim Bedinger, said this morning.
Bumps, bruises
“She’s doing OK, she’s home and recovering, just a few bumps and bruises,” Kim Bedinger said.
“Everything came flooding back, that’s for sure.”
Katy Bedinger was a passenger on a 2015 Harley Davidson FLHTK driven by Donald A. Bedinger, Brooke’s brother, when the collision occurred at about 7:48 p.m. Thursday, the State Patrol said.
Donald Bedinger was travelling eastbound on U.S. Highway 101 and turning left into the Les Schwab Tire Center near Monroe Road when he was rear-ended by a 2002 Yamaha XV1600 motorcycle driven by Margason, the State Patrol said.
“The guy behind them rear-ended them, and they went down,” Kim Bedinger said.
Donald Bedinger was not injured, the State Patrol said.
The cause and potential charges are under investigation.
Brooke Bedinger, a 2016 Sequim High School graduate, died in a vehicle-motorcycle collision on the Morse Creek curve about a mile west of Thursday’s collision.
Her death led to a community effort spearheaded by her family to make safety improvements to the curve.
The state Legislature approved $1 million of the estimated $5 million needed to make the improvements during the 2019 legislative session.
