PORT HADLOCK — The robber of the Bank of America has been identified but not caught, Jefferson County Undersheriff Tim Perry said Tuesday.
Although Perry declined to give the name of the man until he is in custody, he said that the man had robbed a bank in Port Hadlock in the past.
The Port Hadlock Bank of America branch, one of two banks in Port Hadlock, was robbed in 2001 of $10,000 at the point of a BB gun.
Robert Daniel Jones, who was 53 at the time, pleaded guilty to the crime four months later in U.S. District Court in Tacoma.
When asked Tuesday if he was talking about Jones, Perry said he couldn’t verify that.
“Robert Daniel Jones may be a person of interest but I can’t say he’s the suspect,” said Perry on Tuesday.
Sought here and in Seattle
The man police are seeking was identified from video recordings from bank cameras in Port Hadlock and Seattle, said Perry.
The Seattle Police Department, Seattle-based FBI agents and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office are looking for him both locally and in Seattle.
Perry said that a car with a license plate number photographed on video outside a bank in Seattle was registered to the man.
The man police are seeking allegedly attempted to rob two banks in Seattle recently, but was unsuccessful.
Perry described the man as having a history of bank robbery, including a bank in Port Hadlock in the past.
He has served time in federal prison for bank robbery and was released on parole a year ago.
He once lived in Jefferson County, but now lives in Seattle, said Perry.
Police identified him late Monday night, and more evidence surfaced throughout Tuesday, Perry said.
