PORT ANGELES — A mystery man walked into the downtown Bank of America on Thursday, handed a hold-up note to a teller and calmly sauntered away after robbing the bank of an undisclosed amount of money.
The 1:40 p.m. robbery was so quiet that Clallam County Economic Development Council employees working upstairs in the building at 102 E. Front St. didn’t even know the holdup occurred.
After receiving the call, police immediately blanketed the downtown area.
But the calm, cool and collected bandit eluded the dragnet and remained at large Thursday night.
Police obtained a bank surveillance camera photograph of the bandit and went door-to-door questioning workers at hotels, motels, restaurants, bars and other businesses.
Many said they saw the suspect, but their accounts did not lead to the suspect.
“If people see the man they are requested to dial 9-1-1 and advise local law enforcement of their observations,” police Sgt. Eric Kovatch said. “They are not encouraged to contact or make any apprehensions on their own.”
Port Angeles Police Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation officials are conducting a joint investigation into the robbery.
