Mail-in ballots for replacement maintenance and operations levies for the Quillayute Valley, Port Angeles and Crescent school districts are due today.
To be counted, ballots must be dropped off no later than 8 p.m. at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., in Port Angeles; Sequim Motor Vehicle Licensing Office, 1001 E. Washington St., Sequim; or at Forks District Court, 503 E. Division St., Forks.
Ballots can also be mailed back, provided they are postmarked today.
Under state law, maintenance and operations levies require 60 percent voter approval to pass.
Here’s a breakdown of today’s levy elections:
Port Angeles schools
Voters in the Port Angeles School District are being asked to support a two-year, $10.7 million levy replacing a three-year levy expiring at the end of the year.
If approved, the levy would collect $5.3 million in 2004 and $5.4 million in 2005. . . .
Forks schools
On the West End, residents of the Quillayute Valley School District in both Clallam and Jefferson counties are being asked to support a replacement two-year levy raising $508,965 each year.
The existing levy expires Dec. 31.
The estimated tax rate is $1.63 per $1,000 of assessed value in 2004 and 2005. . . .
Crescent School District
Joyce voters are being asked to approve a four-year replacement levy that will collect $246,851 in 2004 and 2005 and $259,193 in 2006 and 2007.
The levy rate estimate is $1.60 per $1,000 of assessed valuation for each of the next four years.
At that rate, the owner of a $150,000 home would pay $240 annually in maintenance and operations levy taxes.
