Bagpipes, booths and fireworks bursting in air set in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — A Coast Guard flyover, a bagpipe band, llamas and other beasts, classic cars and a Dixieland Jazz band are among the treats those lining Lincoln and First streets will enjoy during the Kitsap Bank Fourth of July Parade today.

More than 80 entries are signed up for the Port Angeles parade, which will start at 6 p.m. in front of the Clallam County Courthouse at the corner of Lincoln and Fourth streets.

It will travel down Lincoln Street, turn onto First Street and end at the intersection with Valley Street.

Because of the bank’s sponsorship, no entry fee is charged for the parade.

Coast Guard Group/Air Station Port Angeles will lead the parade with a color guard and a flyover.

Right behind the color guard will be an eclectic collection of floats, walkers, fire trucks, baseball teams, cheerleaders, a variety of vehicles — bicycles, motorcycles, tractors, jeeps, spiffy cars and an Army National Guard Hummer — baton twirlers, lawn mowers, students and other well-wishers.

Among the musical offerings will be The Greater Victoria Police Pipe Band, playing bagpipe tunes, and a Dixieland Jazz band provided by Angeles Millwork and Lumber Co., and Hartnagel Building Supply.

Miss Washington, Harasyn Sandell — a Sequim native — will ride in the parade.

The Port Angeles Senior Center float will include belly-dancers.

The fun will start earlier today, with the Wave Broadband Fourth of July Celebration beginning at 3 p.m. in the City Pier parking lot.

Food and craft vendors will set the stage for a Festival Village there, said Vanessa Shearer, the special events and marketing coordinator of the Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Twenty-three crafts vendors will set up shop, along with six food vendors, she said.

Children can play on a 25-foot-tall inflatable slide and an inflatable obstacle course.

The Luck of the Draw will perform at 3 p.m., Sequimarimba at 4:30 p.m., Manteca at 7 p.m. and Soul Shakers at 8:30 p.m.

Fireworks will light up the sky over the Port Angeles Harbor beginning at dusk — about 10 p.m.

The best viewing locations will be along the Olympic Discovery Trail and from the City Pier.

Access to the trail in the area of Francis Street will not be available because the staging area of the fireworks show will be off limits to the public.
