PORT ANGELES — Molly Tinsley, winner of an Oregon Book Award among other prizes, will give a free reading this Tuesday at Wine on the Waterfront inside The Landing mall, 115 E. Railroad Ave.
The 7 p.m. reading, hosted by the North Coast Writers group based in Port Angeles, is open to all lovers of literature.
Tinsley will delve into a couple of genres, reading from her memoir, Entering the Blue Stone, as well as from her spy thriller, Broken Angels.
A writer who these days divides her time between Portland and Ashland, Ore., Tinsley spent 20 years as an literature and creative writing instructor at the United States Naval Academy.
She’s also the founder of Fuze, her publishing company, and has entered the realm of playwriting to augment a weak market for fiction.
“We need to become literary activists,” Tinsley has said about the necessity for authors to establish their own audiences.
Past awards
Tinsley has received two National Endowment for the Arts awards for her fiction, while her short story collection, Throwing Knives, won the Sandstone Prize for Short Fiction from Ohio State University Press along with the Oregon Book Award in 2001.
Tinsley has also written a novel, My Life with Darwin, and pens the monthly “Theatre and the Arts” column for the Jefferson Monthly, a magazine for Jefferson Public Radio listeners in southern Oregon.
At Tuesday night’s reading, copies of Entering the Blue Stone and Broken Angels will be available for purchase.
