PORT TOWNSEND — If you’ve ever seen a Kinetic Skulpture race, you’ve probably seen John Montgomery or his sons, Gabe and Forrest, pedaling along in John’s invention, the Autocanoe.
Basically a canoe on wheels, it goes on land or water, making it the perfect all-purpose vehicle for Port Townsend.
Now, Montgomery is peddling vehicles that are an equally good match for the community — EVs, electric-powered vehicles.
“An EV is the perfect second car for Port Townsend,” Montgomery said.
Montgomery is the new representative for MC Electric Vehicles, a Seattle dealership that has branches in Spokane and Portland.
But given the range of EVs and their speed limit, they are tailor-made for a town the size of Port Townsend.
“The official state regulations regarding NEVs (neighborhood electric vehicles) allows you to drive a speed limit of 25 miles per hour,” Montgomery said.
“In essence, they’re perfect for Port Townsend.”
While he won’t be opening a car lot, Montgomery will have models available to test drive.
The Electric Vehicle Expo is April 15 at the Food Co-op, 414 Kearney St., off Sims Way in Port Townsend, starting at 10 a.m.
Electric cars, from IT sedans to utility trucks, will be available to test drive.
