SEQUIM — Attendance was up by about 10 percent at the North Peninsula Building Association’s 15th annual Building, Remodeling and Energy Expo, FaLeana Wech, executive officer of the Building Association, reported Sunday.
Final numbers for the weekend event at Sequim High School were not available, but Saturday turnout was better than last year’s crowd of 3,500, and early Sunday’s attendance was brisk, Wech said.
“Yesterday, the weather played into our favor,” she said, referring to the rain that had people seeking indoor activities.
Exhibitors reported that people also seemed serious about
spending money.
“Business has picked up. We’re staying fairly busy,” said Tony Cortani, owner of Tim’s Custom Cabinets of Sequim.
Cortani said he’s seeing two things happening.
First, people who have been tightfisted with their money have decided to go ahead and get work done, he said.
And, some homeowners have realized they are staying in their homes instead of trying to sell them, so they are updating what they already have.
Cortani’s business specializes in creations, such as folding Murphy beds, which look like a cupboard when they aren’t used.
Rian Patterson of Interlock Lifetime Roofing Systems also said he’s seeing a difference from recent years.
“It’s picking up,” Patterson said.
For many homeowners, it’s a matter of not being able to put off a new roof any longer, he said.
Patterson said he gets a lot of questions about roof maintenance.
“Everyone from Oregon to here ask how to keep the moss off,” Patterson said.
Spraying a roof with Tide with bleach is effective but doesn’t eliminate the need for regular maintenance, he said.
