NEAH BAY — Athletes will be the guests of honor at Makah Days this weekend.
The Neah Bay School’s sports teams and the women’s canoe team have all had successful years in their competitions, said Nan Taylor, secretary of the board for Makah Days.
“That is why we decided to dedicate it to them,” she said.
The theme of the three-day festival, which begins today, is “Honoring Our Athletes: Neah Bay All Honor To You.”
“We are also honoring them by making them the grand marshals of the parade,” Taylor said.
Athletic activities will be offered in abundance during the festival celebrating Makah culture.
A softball tournament, canoe races, golf tournament, and a hike are among the activities.
“For the really health conscious, the Bahokus Peak Challenge is a great hike,” Taylor said.
The path ascends Bahokus Peak which overlooks the bay and valley.
“It is a really beautiful view from up there, but it is a really steep hike,” Taylor said.
