PORT ANGELES — A 21-year-old Port Angeles man was arrested early Thursday morning after he allegedly stole about $80 from a women outside of a grocery store near Port Angeles.
Christian C. Leigh was booked into the Clallam County jail on investigation of second-degree robbery and third-degree theft after four Clallam County Sheriff’s deputies arrested him at a Monroe Road residence.
Leigh is accused of robbing Julie McGuire, 41, at about 1:40 a.m. outside of the Safeway at 2709 E. U.S. Highway 101.
The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office gives the following account:
Leigh approached McGuire, yelled her name, grabbed the money she held in her hand and fled on foot.
The woman and some of her family members chased Leigh to Monroe Road, where they lost sight of him.
One of McGuire’s family members recognized Leigh and provided information to deputies.
Deputies Eric Munger, Ralph Edgington, Mark Millet and Bob Cannon made the arrest.
The money was not recovered.
Leigh was booked into jail at 3:48 a.m.
Second-degree robbery is a Class B felony. Third degree theft is a gross misdemeanor.
