PORT HADLOCK — Military officials are forecasting a minimal impact on east Jefferson County traffic as hundreds of Army trucks and armored vehicles convoy to the Hood Canal Bridge and beyond starting Saturday.
Stryker Brigade Combat Teams to be based at Fort Lewis south of Tacoma will begin offloading at the Naval Magazine Indian Island dock Saturday.
In 15-vehicle convoys, they’ll make their way through Port Hadlock, down state Highway 19, onto Highway 104, across the Hood Canal Bridge and then head to Fort Lewis by way of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge.
The exercise, known as Joint Logistics Over the Shore, or JLOTS, will begin Saturday and last through July 1, the Army said.
About 700 vehicles and thousands of soldiers will be offloaded onto Indian Island for the convoy.
“This is an opportunity for the people on the Olympic Peninsula to see first-hand some of the newest equipment and some of the best soldiers we’ve got in the Army,” said Fort Lewis’ Stryker spokesman, Lt. Col. Joseph Piek.
