PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles man who allegedly tried to kill his stepuncle with a deadly dose of insulin has a new trial date.
Robbie Wayne Davis, 39, will be tried April 13 on first-degree attempted murder and three other charges.
Port Angeles police said Davis injected Richard Haynes with insulin June 15 while Haynes was being treated for an unrelated ailment at Olympic Medical Center.
Haynes, a non-diabetic, was discovered with dangerously low blood sugar shortly after being visited by Davis, court papers said.
Haynes died of complications from pneumonia Oct. 15.
Davis is charged with single counts of first-degree premeditated attempted murder and first-degree assault in the alleged attack on Haynes.
He is also charged with two counts of harassment-threats to kill for allegedly writing letters in the Clallam County jail that threatened a deputy prosecuting attorney and a caseworker.
The letters were discovered by a fellow inmate.
Samples of Davis’ handwriting were sent with the letters to a State Patrol crime lab for analysis.
Davis is being held on $50,000 bail.
The trial was originally scheduled for Dec. 8.
A pretrial status conference is set for March 13.
