Applications being accepted for Soroptimist awards

PORT ANGELES — Applications for the Women’s Opportunity Award and the Violet Richardson Award are being accepted by Soroptimist International of Port Angeles and Port Angeles-Jet Set.

The Violet Richardson Award of $500 is for young women between the ages of 14 and 17 who volunteer in their communities and/or schools.

The deadline for submitting the application is Dec. 1.

Applications are available at Port Angeles and Crescent high schools and at tinyurl.com/PDN-VRAward.

The Women’s Opportunity Award is for women with primary financial responsibility for supporting their family who attend or have been accepted to a vocational/skills-training program or an undergraduate degree program.

Individuals residing in the Port Angeles and Joyce areas are eligible to apply.

The deadline for submitting the application is Dec. 15.

This award ranges from $500 to $1,500 and may be used to offset any costs associated with efforts to attain higher education, including books, child care and transportation.

The application is available at Peninsula College’s website at pc.ctc.edu and the Soroptimist website

at tinyurl.com/PDN-Opportunity.

Recipients of the Violet Richardson Award and Women’s Opportunity Award also become eligible to receive regional-level awards, which are granted through Soroptimist’s 28 geographic regions.
