Applications accepted now for PUD commission vacancy

CARLSBORG — Applications are being accepted now for a vacant seat on the Clallam County Public Utility District commission.

Applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. March 23.

The resignation of Rick Paschall from the District 2 seat was announced on Monday. His last day was Thursday. No reason was given for his resignation.

The two remaining commissioners have 90 days to appoint a replacement to fill the vacancy until the certification of the general election in November 2024. The candidate winning the 2024 election would serve the remainder of the unexpired term through December 2026.

The position pays a salary of $2,567 per month, plus a per diem of $128 per day for meetings attended on behalf of the district to a maximum annual compensation of $48,724, according to state law. Commissioners also are eligible for group insurance for themselves, their immediate family and dependents.

Candidates must be registered voters living within the PUD’s District 2. The district includes these voter precincts: Agnew, Blue Mountain, Bluffs, Carlsborg, Clark, Cline, Coyote, Deer Park, Dungeness East, Dungeness West, Fairview, Jamestown, Lost Mountain, Macleay, Monterra, Mount Pleasant, O’Brien, Prairie North, Riverside and Robin Hill.

Commissioners will be addressing significant issues for the customers of the PUD during 2023 and the future. Current challenges are focused on rising costs of power and operations, minimal load growth, and future power supply challenges, the PUD said in its job description.

Commissioners approve the three fund budgets; set policy for electric, water, and sewer regulations; set rates and charges for services; approve the strategic Plan; and appoint the general manager.

Application instructions can be found on the PUD website at www.clallampud.net/vacancy.
