Clallam County Master Gardeners are accepting applications for the annual training program now.
The Washington State University Extension Master Gardener training program will be from Jan. 25 through March 31. Classes one day per week at the Camp Fire Clubhouse, 619 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles, will be supplemented by online instruction, said Muriel Nesbitt, Clallam County WSU Master Gardener program coordinator.
Access to the online instruction will be arranged to accommodate those who do not own computers.
Trainees will learn to identify plant materials, diagnose plant problems, identify insects and insect damage, detect plant diseases and determine correct cultural practices, enabling them to provide appropriate recommendations for treatment and management of horticultural problems and provide information on safe and effective gardening and landscaping practices, Nesbitt said.
In return for this training, participants volunteer time to the community as horticulture advisers and resource people.
The deadline for the Jefferson County Master Gardener training program was Monday.
Clallam County has three demonstration gardens for education about plant matters and gardening techniques.
They also hold weekly plant clinics from April through October and present a program on plants and growing to all local second-grade classes.
