PORT ANGELES — KONP News Radio and the Port Angeles Lions Club will host their annual food-a-thon benefiting the Port Angeles Food Bank from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday.
Lions Club members and Port Angeles Food Bank board members will staff the KONP phones to accept pledges for the food bank fundraiser that addresses the critical community need of residents experiencing food insecurity, according to a press release.
People can call in pledges to 360-457-1450. Donations can be made by check, online at www.portangeles foodbank.org and by texting FOODATHON to 44321.
The press release stated that a pledge of $10 helps feed a family for a month though Adopt-a-Family; $20 pays for one Break Bag over winter or spring breaks; $140 pays for a student to receive Friday Food Bags all year; $250 buys ground beef for a week’s worth of shoppers; $375 buys milk for a week’s worth of shoppers; and $500 buys milk, eggs, and beef for a week.
The Port Angeles Food Bank feeds over 3,000 households in a year; provides over 63,000 pounds of food a month; sends 540 Friday Food Bags home with students each week; receives, stores and distributes over 300,000 pounds of food to other area food pantries and meal programs each year; and benefits from nearly 10,000 volunteer hours.
