KALALOCH – All lanes of U.S. Highway 101 near Kalaloch have been reopened after culverts were replaced with large concrete bridges.
On Monday, crews reopened both lanes of the highway near Kalaloch, removing the temporary traffic signal that was in place during the construction.
Contractor crews from Quiggs Bros, Inc., working for the state Department of Transportation (DOT), removed old culverts under Highway 101 at Steamboat, Harlow and Fisher Creeks.
The culverts had been barriers to fish passage.
Crews will return in spring 2022 to finish stream restoration efforts.
The project,which began in 2020, is expected to finish in fall 2022.
This work is part of DOT’s program to remove barriers to fish under state highways.
